Why is it that when we demonize a minority, some people feel--or act--like they are the victims here?

Illegal aliens outnumber Americans in American prisons. And this was before any state took a proactive approach to controlling illegal immigration. These people killed, robbed, and slung dope. Why shouldn't we be paranoid?
